Dr. Steve Annest has been a member of Vascular Institute of the Rockies since its inception in 1995. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington, completed a surgical residency at Albany Medical Center, NY, and performed his vascular fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Annest is board certified in vascular and general surgery and is fellowship-trained in trauma.

Dr. Brad Ball is a pediatric hematologist oncologist with the Rocky Mountain Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic. He attended medical school at the University of Mississippi, Jackson and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He finished his fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at the University of Colorado, Denver. He was the Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Department, University of Alabama-Birmingham from 2009 - 2011.

Dr. Laurel Benson is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Rocky Mountain Pediatric Orthopedics. Dr. Benson graduated from the University of Colorado Medical School and completed her residency in orthopedic surgery at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Illinois.  She completed her fellowships in pediatric orthopedics at Children's Hospital - University of California, San Diego and the Solfield Travelling Fellow, Australia.  Dr. Benson went on to complete a second fellowship in pediatric hand surgery at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Ray Blum is a board certified specialist in infectious diseases. He graduated from  the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and completed a residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in infectious diseases at University of Colorado Affiliated Hospitals.

Dr. Bill Brown is Co-Medical Director of The Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk with Dr. Ross Wilkins. Dr. Brown and the plastic surgery team are recognized in the Denver region for their expertise in vascularized bone flap procedures and difficult soft tissue reconstructive procedures.

Dr. Jennifer Clark is a pediatric hematologist oncologist with the Rocky Mountain Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic. She attended medical school at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine and her pediatric residency was the Harvard Combined Residency in Medicine and Pediatrics, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston MA. In addition she completed her fellowship in hematology-oncology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston MA. 

Dr. Allison Franklin is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist at Colorado Rehabilitation Consultants and focuses on the rehab needs of patients with amputation or poly-trauma.  Prior to establishing her private practice on the campus of Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center, Dr. Franklin was a Major in the U.S. Army, serving as Inpatient Polytrauma Rehabilitation Director and Assistant Medical Director of the Amputee Program At Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Wendy Gill is a board certified specialist in infectious diseases.  She received her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at University of Colorado.  She also completed a residency in tropical medicine through the University of Alabama program in Lima, Peru. Her fellowship in infectious disease was completed at the University of Washington in Seattle.  She has been a member of the Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk since she joined Drs. Ray Blum and Matt Terra in practice at Infectious Disease Consultants. 

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Dr. Hahn earned his medical degree at Case Western University. His orthopaedic residency was completed at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, and his fellowship at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Hinshaw is a board certified medical oncologist with the Midtown office of Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers. She received her medical diploma from the University of General Medicine in Bucharest, Romania, in 1988. She served internships at the Bucharest Municipal Clinical Hospital in Bucharest, Romania, from 1978 to 1990, and also the Bexar County Hospital District, University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio.

Dr. Peder Horner is an interventional radiologist with Diversified Radiology of Colorado.  He completed medical school at University of Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri; then went on to complete his diagnostic radiology residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.  He completed his fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Oregon Health and Science University as well. Dr. Horner and his interventional radiology colleagues are key members of the extremity tumor service line. Their expertise in biopsy and intra-arterial chemotherapy is imperative in the post-treatment outcomes for osteosarcoma. 

Dr. Hugate joined The Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk and Colorado Limb Consultants in 2005. His internship and residency were completed at Penn State University School of Medicine after graduating with honors from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He then completed an Orthopedic Oncology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he earned the title "Instructor of Orthopedics" in the Orthopedic Surgery department. He specializes in the surgical treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors, complex joint replacements, and hip preservation surgery.

Dr. Cindy Kelly has been a member of the Denver Clinic since 1995. She obtained her MD degree at UCLA, graduating with honors and completed her orthopeadic surgery training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. After completing a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at UCLA she relocated to Denver and joined the Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk. Her areas of interest and expertise are bone and soft tissue tumors, in all age groups, and osteonecrosis (avascular necrosis of bone).

 Dr. Jeremy Kinder is an orthopedic surgeon in the Complex Joint Reconstruction program at the Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk. Dr. Kinder specializes in infected joints and complex joint revision. He received his medical degree from Rush Medical College and completed his residency and internship at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Rush University-Midwest Orthopaedics. He joined the Colorado Limb Consultants in April 2013.  

Dr. Walt Madsen specializes in Surgical Pathology and Immuno-histochemistry. He received his MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine and went to the University of Illinois at Chicago and Cook County Hospital for internship and residency training in General Surgery. In addition to clinical surgery responsibilities, he conducted research on the effect of steroid hormones on sarcoma tumor cell growth as an American Cancer Society Oncology Fellow. Dr. Madsen completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Colorado and his fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Washington University in St. Louis, Barnes Hospital.

Dr. Robert Meier, III is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  He specializes amputation rehabilitation for upper and lower extremity amputees.  Dr. Meier completed his surgical internship and residency at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY and his rehabilitation medicine residency at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.  Dr. Meier has held teaching positions at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Mubarak was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Mubarak obtained his medical degree in 1999 from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He completed his general surgery residency at Michigan State University and his vascular surgery Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in July 2004. 

Dr. Nowak joined the Vascular Institute in 2000. She is widely experienced, having practiced as a trauma surgeon in Pittsburgh before moving to the University of Iowa for a Fellowship in Vascular Surgery. She is board certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery.

Dr. Brooke Pengel is a graduate of the University of Connecticut Medical School and completed her pediatric internship and residency as well as primary sports medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado.  Dr. Pengel is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics with an additional certificate of added qualification in sports medicine.  Dr. Pengel is the medical director of Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute and a member of the Extremities at Risk hip preservation team.

Dr. John Polousky is the surgical director of the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute. He attended medical school at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. He completed his residency at The Cleveland Clinic and his pediatric orthopedic fellowship at The Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He completed post-residency training in complex limb reconstruction at the International Center for Limb Lengthening in Baltimore, MD and in sports medicine at the University of Colorado. Dr. Polousky is a member of the Extremities at Risk Hip Preservation, Bone Healing and Deformity Correction teams.

Dr. Jaren Riley is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon with Rocky Mountain Pediatric Orthopedics. Dr. Riley graduated from University of Iowa College of Medicine and went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency there as well. He completed his fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Primary Children's Hospital/Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. His clinical interests include pelvic reconstruction, pelvic and femoral osteotomy and spine surgery. 

Dr. Schnur is a plastic surgeon in practice at the Plastic Surgery Clinic. He attended medical school at the University of Arizona, and his general surgery and plastic surgery residencies were completed at the University of Pennsylvania. His fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery was completed in San Antonio, TX.

Dr. Synn is one of the founding members of the Vascular Institute of the Rockies. His clinical interests span the full breadth of vascular surgery. He maintains a special emphasis in complex arterial surgery and endovascular therapies, particularly the endograft treatment of aortic aneurysms. In addition to caring for his patients, he is a scientific investigator in modern therapies that help the patient with vascular disease.

Dr. Matt Terra is one of three infectious disease specialists on the Extremities at Risk team.  After earning his undergraduate degree magna cum laude and medical degree from Georgetown University, he completed his postgraduate residency in internal medicine and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Tirre earned his M.D. from the St. Louis University and completed postgraduate training in general surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown Pennslyvania, and his plastic surgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He completed his hand and microvascular residency at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center. 

Dr. Brian White is an orthopedic surgeon with Western Orthopaedic Group in Denver Colorado.  Dr. White went to medical school at Georgetown University and completed his orthopedic residency at the Hospital for Joint Disease, New York University. His fellowship in Sports Medicine - Knee, Hip, and Shoulder Arthroscopy was completed at the Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation in Vail, CO. 

Dr.van Doorninck is a pediatric hematologist oncologist with the Rocky Mountain Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic. He attended medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee and his pediatric residency at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, California and completed his pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship there as well. He finished his Masters program in Clinical and Biomedical Investigations at the University of Southern California.

Ross Wilkins, MD founded the Institute for Limb Preservation with the late Dr. Tom Arganese in 1989 and now presides as Co-Medical Director for the re-named Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk. He received a master's degree in cellular biology from the University of Colorado and his medical degree from Wayne State University. Following his postgraduate training at the University of Colorado, he completed a fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Julie Zimbelman is a pediatric hematologist oncologist with the Rocky Mountain Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic. She attended medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver. Dr. Zimbelman completed her pediatric residency as well as her pediatric hematology-oncology and bone marrow transplant fellowship at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Zimbelman is an active member of the Denver Clinic involved in the treatment of childhood osteosarcoma.
