Ronald R. Hugate, MD

thumb_R.Hugate_2011.pDr. Hugate joined The Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk and Colorado Limb Consultants in 2005. His internship and residency were completed at Penn State University School of Medicine after graduating with honors from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He then completed an Orthopedic Oncology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he earned the title "Instructor of Orthopedics" in the Orthopedic Surgery department. He specializes in the surgical treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors, complex joint replacements, and hip preservation surgery.

As a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves, Dr. Hugate has been mobilized multiple times. He has twice been awarded the Army Commendation Medal for excellence in service during tours of duty at Combat Surgical Hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dr. Hugate has published numerous scientific articles and book chapters on topics including chemotherapies for bone tumors, joint replacement implant design, and reconstruction techniques of the skeleton after tumors have been resected.

He also recently published a handbook entitled "The Handbook of Hip and Knee Joint Replacement: Through the Eyes of the Patient, Surgeon, and Medical Team" for those patients considering hip or knee replacement surgeries to help them better understand the decision process and prepare themselves for surgery.
